Last week during Class with Calabrese...
I pulled a "hooley hoop" out of a tree during outside play time with the preschoolers.
A preschool boy was very devastated that he did not have his tooth container that he left inside, incase he lost a tooth. Because "What if I lose my tooth without the container and then the tooth fairy will never get my tooth!"
The little girl with lots of hugs told me she loved me. My heart melted.
Another little girl came to lunch with 3 hearts in her lunchbox, later she gave me one saying she wanted me to have it. I cried a little.
Another preschool boy rambled on to me for 5 minutes about his love for grapes.
A first grader asked me if I knew The Christmas story? I asked him if he meant THE Christmas story (thinking he meant about Jesus) or another Christmas story. He replied "No, THE Christmas story...you know, the one where he shoots his eye out". I held back my laughter.
Later, the entire first grade started chanting "DO IT! DO IT!" as one of them challenged another to dip her carrot in nacho cheese and eat it. She accepted the challenge. And she liked it.
Other first graders decided to try it as well. I eventually stopped the chanting.
About 10 different children of various grades informed me there was a root beer can on top of the folded up bleachers. At least half kindly offered to climb to the top and get it. Their generosity was denied.
A group of third grade girls were very proud that I knew of the mannequin challenge.
Later, another third grade girl informed me that her friend threw a carrot into her nacho cheese (the combination was popular today!). I gasped and asked if her cheese was ok. She said yes and then her friend explained that she only threw the carrot in her cheese because she touched her carrots first. I told the girl she learned a very valuable lesson today: not to touch other people carrots. She thought that was strange, but she liked it.
Lastly, I greatly devastated the fourth grade because I have never watched The Lord of the Rings. Only one of them forgave me.
These kids honestly remind me everyday why I want to become a teacher! <3
